Liverpool In Tune With Diversity
In 2007 – European Year of Equal Opportunities for All - the “For Diversity. Against Discrimination” Truck Tour has joined forces with Liverpool City Council to make the Truck Tour as representative and relevant to the local community as possible. The Truck will be placed in Williamson Square in Liverpool city centre on 24th and 25th July, and it will be open to members of the general public between approximately 11am-5pm on both days.
We are working together with a number of local and national stakeholders, including Brouhaha International Festival, Job Centre Plus, Age Positive, People Pool (LCC), Diversity Centre, Colourful Radio, and the list continues to grow.
The ‘big idea’ for the Truck Tour is to offer members of the general public and stakeholders from the local area the opportunity to learn more about the “For Diversity. Against Discrimination” campaign in an entertaining environment. With this in mind, the programme for the days will feature both awareness-raising and fun elements.
Fun elements will include: performances from local and international musicians, street artists, and theatre groups; “Diversity Idol” karaoke quiz with the chance to win one of three mp3 players; Truck Tour rally quiz with the chance to win concert tickets; Vox Pop tent to record the public’s message of diversity; screening of film.
More awareness-raising elements will include: a speech from Cllr Marilyn Fielding from the Truck’s stage; workshops from partner organisations and diversity/non-discrimination specialists for stakeholders and members of the general public; information stands from partner organisations.
The Truck Tour is designed to be accessible to all groups of individuals regardless of their gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, race or ethnicity, religion or belief.
The UK Truck Tour’s official media partner in 2007 will be Colourful Radio. Colourful is a new national digital talk, cross-cultural radio station. Colourful radio will be covering the run-up to the Truck Tour with a series of interviews with participants from the event. Henry Bonsu, co-founder of Colourful, will also be moderating the event on the day from the Truck’s stage. The station can be found at www.colourfulradio.com and on Sky Satellite channel 0194.
